When reached for comment, CCP declined to state whether or not the date was true, saying that they had “nothing more to add” on the subject.
It has been in the news for a couple years now that CCP was looking into developing a World of Darkness MMO (Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game).
Now according to a supposed leaked CCP financial document CCP Games, the parent company of White Wolf Publishing, is developing a MMO to launch in 2010. The game would be based around White Wolf’s World of Darkness games, like Vampire, Werewolf and Mage.
Here is a December 2008 article from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about Georgia’s video game industry heating up.
“Atlanta is positioning itself as a place where computer games are made and developed,” said Hilmar Petursson, CCP Games’ chief executive officer. “They’ve developed incentives for companies to go there and do this. I believe we’ll see more gaming companies opening offices in Atlanta as time goes on.”
With EVE Online expanding more and more and now this upcoming MMO news, it now looks like CCP/White Wolf is going deep into the online gaming market. For VTES players one wonders how this will affect the future of VTES Online?
If this will be a game, where one would only be able to create a human, with no ways of becoming Kindred, Garou, Fairy or other supernatural – than it’s fine by me. Just for that simple reason, that Vampires in VtM or VtR(dunno, which system they will be using) are not orcs in WoW – there is a very small and limited number of Kindred one city may sustain.
And while I see Werewolves, Vampires and others as NPCs, the game should really be set around humans in the World of Darkness
If the game were to be set only around humans it will probably be doll… And in this competitive market we have going on now in the MMOGs industry, I think that we will have supernatural beings as playble… And, what the hell, play as a Werewolf or any other supernatural would just win at any MMOG market… So let’s pray they will think this way and have as many supernatural beigns as playable as they can…
Well, as long as they base it around Old World of Darkness, and not the new system, it should be interesting. New World of Darkness has ruined what was, in mine and many people I know’s opinion, a great setting. OWoD had a rich history and lore, with interesting characters and exciting events. NWoD on the other hand seems to much of a nothingness – its all style, no substance!
I don’t know much about whitewolf’s content beyond the game “Vampire” made by activision which I just started playing, and enjoy despire its out-of-dateness and variety of bugs. But, I’m guessing from CCP’s current game EVE which I’ve played for years that ccp will take full advantage and allow all players to start out as or become “supernatural” in a wod mmo when/if they get around to making it. (And I think they will more likely do something like that in 2011 or 2012, since 2010 they have their hands full with EVE expansions and Dust 514.) Anyway, I imagine the vast majority of humans will all be NPC’s in a wod game created by CCP, and that the world itself would be vast enough for a great many players to co-inhabit. If CCP knows how to do anything its make huge virtual sandbox worlds.
Whats the point in creating a MMO about Vampires and other supernatural beings, where you cant even play like one? This has been the case with all games released by them.
When developing such a MMO the dev must keep in mind that they can expect a large player base, wich may require them to make multiply city with huge amounts of “food”.
If a game like this were to be in development it would attract me aslong it gives me the opportunity to explore the lore ingame, play kindred and live by their rules. With this i mean the rules like set in Vampire: bloodlines. A mmo version of such a game would be great.
It won’t be for Xbox 360 or PS3, nor will it have graphics like what we have grown accustomed to, nor will it have the depth of Elder Scrolls 5 or Fallout, or the action of a good FPS, or like game. So I just don’t care.
well if there finnally will be a game were you can play vampire or werewolf signe me up but the envrirement have to be good wouldnt want it to easy so some sort off rivalry would be good and a good story/feel in the game well im keeping my fingers crossed
